Mantra Chanting In Yoga and Meditation Retreat Centre Pyrenees
Kirtan or meditative chanting of mantras in Sanskrit. Mantras are chanted in Sanskrit for its sound structure. Along with the Basque language it is one of the oldest languages known. It contains a subtle and non-dense form of energy. According to the yogic tradition these energies correspond to the subtle channels of the body (nadis), similar to acupuncture meridians that run throughout the body concept. When we chant a Mantra these “nadis” (literally, sound channels in Sanskrit) begin to vibrate, whether we recited or we sing them internally.
The singing of Mantras is based on simple melodies derived from the raga, or classical Indian music form. Kirtan is considered the easiest way to elevate the mind to reach the inner silence and contact the soul.
